Ruth has been delivering pyrography, wood carving abd painting workshops and courses for over 15 years.
She has a new studio space and Is now able to offer a 2 day course over a weekend where you can really get mastering pyro and paint techniques and work on a larger or more complex piece of art.
Saturday - Day 1
Sunday - Day 2 - Matering the art of pyrography and mixed media.
A more in depth follow on course on how to burn using different tips ( spoon, feather and ball tips) shading techniques.
Paint effects including copper verdigris / patina
Guilding with gold ,copper silver leaf
Paint with acrylics, acrylic inks and water colour that I use in my art work.
It is advisable to get the most out of the day to bring some pieces that you have already pyrography if you would like to use the copper patina paint effect as it takes time to cure. You can book the Sat and Sunday together and make a weejebdcof it or separately on different weekends to get a larger piece or a few pieces completed.
Burn on the Saturday, paint etc and burn the details in again on the Sunday.
You will be able to complete a more complex or larger piece in two days and turn your pyrography into a mixed media work of art using paint and guilding techniques.
If time we will explore burning onto other materials such as watercolour paper and using watercolours and inks to enhance work or even incorporating a collage with paper and wood etc
Please bring tracings, stencils or drawings/ designs pr photos with you of what you would like to work on if you want to have time to fully paint/ gold leaf your design.
Previous experience either from one of my courses or personal practise at home is desired for the master class or Or book the day before "pyrography all day workshop" day before and make it a whole weekend.
Beginners who have never had a go should go on my introductory course " pyrography all day workshop" first to learn the basics and practise.
Please do contact me if you are unsure or if you want a particularly large piececof wood.
If you do have your own pyrography machine then please bring what you have as it is good to practise on your own machines. I do have plenty of peter child and razor tip machines if you don't.
I also supply wood for you, but if you have something specific that you want to do then perhaps bring it. ie bowls, chopping boards, big rustic rings or anything else wooden.
If you want a particular size of wood or style ie rustic solid wood plank or ply please let me know.
This is a fun and experimental workshop where you have the opportunity to try different techniques with my support and guidance.

If you have some experience already you may you may join my monthly members Creatives at Earth studio Hub. You can join in on any afternoon that I am running a workshop and I am considering setting up a few open access sessions .
All courses will take place in my new shared studio that I have set up as a teaching space at "earth studios" in the new arts centre - Lockwood studios based on the outskirts of Guildford on Slyfield Industrial Estate.
Buses from Guildford come frequently to the estate and there is a car park just put the front.
It is on one level making wheelchair access easy.
Kitchen is available to make free drinks and their is a microwave.
Smaller pieces of ply and rustic planks are included but larger or rustic planks will be extra. Prices are from £5 to £50.
Gold leaf will have an extra cost on larger pieces.
